Project Overview

High Quality Sands supplies fine and coarse sands and garden soil from Bellinger River, NSW, for use in ready-mix concrete.

Between July 2020 and October 2020, HQ Sands engaged Neumann Dredging to pump sand from the river directly to the client’s quarrying site processing plant.

Scope of Works

Neumann Dredging pumped coarse sand from the Bellinger River across 1.8km to the HQ Sands quarrying site.

Approximately 30,000 cubic metres of coarse sand and gravel were pumped with a 250mm cutter suction dredge and a 250mm floating booster pump.

The dredging works supplied the client with the necessary production material for the production of ready-mix concrete which is delivered to construction sites and residential customers.

HQ Sands and its concrete division can supply an extensive range of pre-mixed concrete for various uses for residential, commercial and industrial clients. They deliver across Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads and Woolgoolga regions, whilst the variety of concrete offered includes exposed aggregate, plain and coloured concrete made for floors and pre-cast concrete.

With our client’s operation in mind, Neumann Dredging provided high-quality service and conducted the dredging service according to environmental specifications and responsibility.

How We Delivered

Challenge

Selecting the appropriate dredge and cutter depends on soil conditions, dredging location, logistics, and overall economics in harmony with the environmental factors and criteria.
Reducing the wear and tear on the machinery due to the range of material characteristics in contact with the dredge cutter, from sand to hard rock.
Discharge pipeline length of 1.8km from the dredging source to the on-shore processing plant

The dredging operation involved using the cutter suction dredge Nu-Discovery and Booster 5.

Looking Ahead

Neumann Dredging acquired the necessary planning permits, conducted its due diligence on environmental impact assessment and satisfied the local council’s and state government’s requirements for the conduct of the dredging works.
