Nu Investigator Cutter Suction Dredge
The Nu Investigator Cutter Suction Dredge is a Nu Explorer Series 300mm dredge built by Neumann Equipment in the 2017.
The Nu Explorer Series of dredges are a small, compact, portable cutter suction dredge that is easily transportable in 2 x 40’ open top shipping containers. This makes it extremely cost effective to mobilise anywhere in the world.
This particular unit has a 194kW (260 bhp) Cummins 6CTA8.3-C Engine providing power to the GIW KSB LCC-M 200-610 Slurry Pump and hydraulics. It has the wet slurry pumping capacity of approximately 650 m3/hr and can dredge to a maximum depth of 6.5 metres.
- Cummins 6CTA8.3-C diesel engine.
- Dong-I DTMP-5100 transmission.
- GIW KSB LCC-M 200-610 slurry pump.
- Southern Cross 100×65-315 jetting/priming pump.
- 850mm diameter cutter wheel.
- All metal components are grit blasted and primed with two-pack epoxy primer, and finished with heavy-duty two-pack epoxy polyamine marine coatings.
The Nu Explorer Series is a product of over 60 years experience in contract dredging, it is lightweight and compact but very powerful and efficient and it is quickly earning reputation for performance and reliability in channel maintenance dredging, capital works marine dredging and in mining and resource dredging.
The dredge is demountable and can be cost effectively transported to remote sites around Australia and overseas. The use of this dredge has proven to be a safe and cost effective method on mine sites for the relocation or reprocessing of tailings.
The Nu Investigator Cutter Suction Dredge has been successfully used for the removal of sand, muds, silts, and slimes and mine tailings.
In harbour and river works, where a variety of natural and dumped materials might be encountered, Neumann dredges have proven their versatility.
Neumann’s extensive dredging experience also makes our dredges highly suited for a variety of material types often encountered in flood prevention and environmental rehabilitation works.

The Nu Investigator has worked on the following Projects:
Hellyer Gold Dredging
Dredge Dry Hire,
Mud/Silt/Sediment Removal / Relocation.
Hellyer Gold Mines hired Neumann Contractors designed and built 250 mm cutter suction dredge the ‘Nu-Investigator’ for a period of 12 months to supplement the operations their existing dredge in the sites tailings ponds. The hire agreement was a dry hire arrangement with Neumann Contractors providing experienced operators in the initial phase to train Hellyer’s own operators in the running of the dredge.
Cullen Bay – Bhagwan Marine
Navigational Channel Maintenance,
Ports and Harbours,
River and Waterways,
Coastal Protection/Beach Nourishment.
Bhagwan Marine hired Neumann Dredging to design and build a 250mm cutter suction dredge the Nu-Investigator and a 250mm booster station to complete 100,000m3 of maintenance dredging in the access channel to the Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal in Darwin. The cutter suction dredge Nu Investigator was used for this project.
