Cutter Suction Dredge
Nu Discovery Cutter Suction Dredge
The Nu Discovery Cutter Suction Dredge is a Nu Explorer Series 300mm dredge built by Neumann Equipment in 2015.
The Nu Explorer Series of dredges is a small, compact, portable cutter suction dredge easily transportable in 2 x 40’ open top shipping containers. The Nu Explorer is exceptionally cost-effective to mobilise anywhere in the world.
This particular unit has a 227kW (305 bhp) Cummins QSC8.3(QSC305) Engine providing power to the GIW KSB LCC-M 200-610 Slurry Pump and hydraulics. It has a wet slurry pumping capacity of approximately 650 m3/hr and can dredge to a maximum depth of 6.5 metres.
Standard Inclusions:
- Cummins Investigator diesel engine.
- Dong-I DTMP-5100 transmission.
- GIW KSB LCC-M 200-610 slurry pump.
- Southern Cross 100×65-315 jetting/priming pump.
- 850mm diameter cutter wheel.
- All metal components are grit blasted and primed with two-pack epoxy primer and finished with heavy-duty two-pack epoxy polyamine marine coatings.
The Nu Explorer Series is a product of over 60 years of experience in contract dredging. It is lightweight and compact but very powerful and efficient. It quickly earns a reputation for performance and reliability in channel maintenance dredging works, marine dredging, and mining and resource dredging.
The dredge is demountable and can be cost-effectively transported to remote sites around Australia and overseas. This dredge has proven to be a safe and cost-effective method on mine sites for the relocation or reprocessing of tailings.
The Nu Discovery Cutter Suction Dredge has successfully removed sand, mud, silts, slimes, and mine tailings.
In harbour and river works, where the cutter suction dredge might encounter a variety of natural and dumped materials, Neumann dredges have proven their versatility.
Neumann’s extensive dredging experience makes our dredges highly suited for various material types often encountered in flood prevention and environmental rehabilitation works.
The Nu Discovery has worked on the following Projects:

The Nu Discovery has worked on the following Projects:
Bellinger River Resource Dredging
Resource Dredging,
Sand Mining,
River and Waterways.
Coarse river sand from mined from the Bellinger River waterways in Coffs Harbour for HQ Sands using the Nu Discovery Cutter Suction Dredge. The Neumann Equipment built Nu Discovery cutter suction dredge pumped the sand approximately 1km and discharged it directly to the processing plant at their facility in Repton.
Cabbage Tree Point Dredging
Channel Maintenance
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority awarded us the project to dredge the Main Channel North at Cabbage Tree Point to a safe navigable depth. The cutter suction dredge Nu Discovery undertook the works. The dredged sand was used as beach nourishment on either side of the boat ramp and in front of the houses.
Iluka Boat Harbour Dredging
Portas and Harbours,
Navigational Channel Maintenance,
River and Waterways,
Coastal Protection/Beach Nourishment.
The NSW Govt. and Investment engaged Neumann Dredging to undertake dredging works to the entrance channels for the Iluka Boat Harbour. The works involved dredging the two approach channels to the Iluka Boat Harbour up to a depth of -3.0m below Iluka Port Datum. The total volume of marine sediments dredged was approximately 26,000m3.
Corrie Channel Dredging
Navigational Channel Maintenance,
River and Waterways,
Coastal Protection /Beach Nourishment.
The Great Lakes Council (now called the Mid Coast Council) engaged Neumann Dredging to undertake the much-needed dredging works in the Corrie Channel. The Corrie Channel is the designated navigation channel/route between Port Stephens and the Myall River, and it also links Nelson Bay and the Port of Tea Gardens.
Monreagh Dam Tailings Dredging
Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Maintenance,
Sediment Removal.
The dredging works at Monreagh Mine involves the removal the sediment from the nominated dredge area in the pond at the site in Miles with the use of our 250mm cutter suction dredge the Nu Discovery. The dredge will be used to transport the material through a combination of 246 mm (ID) floating and land-based pipeline to the nominated disposal area in the opposite end on the pond.
